Develop & Promote the Discipline of Epidemiology in South Africa

About SAES

The South African Epidemiology Society (SAES) is the official platform for epidemiology professionals, students, and other relevant stakeholders in South Africa. The Society’s mission is to develop and promote epidemiology in South Africa, acting as a dynamic hub for communication and engagement.

SAES is dedicated to advancing the discipline of epidemiology by fostering excellence in research methods, encouraging high standards in epidemiology research, teaching, and practice, and promoting collaboration and knowledge exchange across health fields, including among academics, students, public health practitioners and policymakers.

SAES also seeks to strengthen national and international partnerships with academic bodies and funders by showcasing South Africa’s contributions to global epidemiology.

The Society is committed to the building the capacity of the next generation of epidemiologists. Therefore, the SAES online platforms provide accessible resources for students, early-career researchers, and established professionals, including event highlights, research updates, and training opportunities.

As SAES values inclusivity and engagement, the Society uses multimedia channels to connect with a diverse audience and promote the impact of South African epidemiology locally and globally. Therefore, membership to SAES is open to individuals with formal training or substantial experience in epidemiology, providing benefits such as networking, professional development, and participation in conferences, webinars, and workshops.
